Sponsors VS Mentors: What's the Difference
Sponsors VS Mentors: What's the Difference
Introduction: Job aids are how I turn dense information into something learners can act on quickly, whether that's setting shared expectations before a program starts or reinforcing key points after a course ends.
Challenge: A needs assessment survey sent to everyone entering a new sponsorship program, including C-suite sponsors and those seeking sponsorship, surfaced a clear misconception: participants didn't have a shared understanding of what separates a sponsor from a mentor, which put both delivery and expectations at risk right as the program launched.
Approach: I designed Sponsors vs. Mentors: What's the Difference?, a Canva infographic built directly from the needs-assessment data rather than assumptions. It addressed the specific gaps the survey surfaced, clear definitions of each role, the concrete differences between them, actionable next steps, and expectations for both sides of the relationship, and was shared at the very start of the program so every participant, from C-suite sponsors to those seeking sponsorship, started from the same understanding.
Result: Gave every program participant a shared, upfront understanding of their roles before the program began, directly addressing the misconception the needs assessment had flagged as a risk to the program's success.
